Whether you want to improve your fitness, feel more confident or challenge yourself with a practical new skill, Bondi Jiu Jitsu Academy will help you every step of the way.
For complete beginners
Most new students arrive with the same questions: “Will I keep up?”, “Will I look awkward?” and “Is this really for someone like me?” Your first classes are where you learn, not where you are expected to prove yourself.

Why families stay
Whether you are starting yourself or choosing a class for your child, you will not be treated like just another number.
Before your first class
Most hesitation comes from not knowing what the first class will feel like. Here is what you need to know.
No. You will not be expected to know techniques, terminology or how to spar. Your first classes are about learning the basic positions and movements at a pace you can follow.
No. Waiting until you feel fit enough usually means never starting. Begin where you are, take breaks when needed and let training build your fitness over time.
You will be guided through the class first. New students can ask questions, learn the movements and ease into live training with supervision rather than being expected to figure it out alone.
Classes include people at different levels. Your goal is not to keep up with the most experienced person in the room. It is to leave knowing a little more than when you arrived.
That's completely normal. We never expect children to jump straight in. Our coaches take the time to help every child feel comfortable, build confidence at their own pace and enjoy coming back each week.
Bring water and wear comfortable training clothes without zips, jewellery or hard parts. Contact us before attending to confirm whether you need a Gi for your first session.
Adults aged 15 and over can start with an adult class. Children should attend the session that matches their age group. If you are unsure, send an enquiry and we can point you to the right session.
No. We want you to experience a class first and decide if it's the right fit for you. If you have any questions about memberships or trial options, we're happy to walk you through everything before you join.
